Global Employment & Compliance Portal

 Global Employment & Compliance Portal

What is Atlas?

Atlas is an all in one platform for global employment and compliance management. With Atlas, you can expand your business across the world, onboard overseas employees, stay up to date with employment laws across the globe, and pay employees in their preferred currency.

Problem

The Atlas solution is currently split across two different platforms. One platform is informational and provides details about employment laws in countries across the world. The other platform is transactional and allows the user to easily manage and pay their overseas employees. Both platforms have completely different user interfaces and user experiences. It no longer makes sense to have these two products divided between two different applications. Instead, we would like to combine the information and features of the two platforms into one seamless, dynamic web application.

Brainstorming

The challenge to combine the two web applications into one platform is very exciting. However, we have been given an aggressive roadmap, and the MVP is slated to be launched in the spring of 2022. Because of this, our three person team of product designers are working hard to establish an Atlas UI kit based on the branding guidelines we have been given. We are also in the early stages of determining the site map and user flows to ensure the 2 solutions are integrated seamlessly. We have also spent time discussing the original two products with expert users, subject matter experts, and stakeholders to ensure we understand any current user complaints, any gaps we can now fill, and any user concerns. However, because of the aggressive timeline to design, develop, test and release Atlas, the design team and I are not able to spend as much time researching and brainstorming as we would like. I do worry that we will have to release a product that does not thoroughly meet the user’s needs. However, we are working on the MVP, so I am hopeful that we will have more time for user research once version one is released.

Design & UI Kit

The Atlas brand colors proved to be a challenge for accessibility purposes. With this in mind, we chose a medium blue for the UI kit’s primary color and a dark blue for the secondary color. We are also using a shade of the primary blue to highlight active UI elements (tabs, headers, hover effects, etc.). We have established the rest of our UI kit, and I turned related components into variants within Figma to ensure our team can swap between component instances easily. We are now focusing on converting the contents across the old platforms into the new Atlas look and feel, ensuring that we also provide an exceptional user experience.
